Other than the first three experimental styles, Bureau precancels were made by inserting a precanceling plate in the sequence of stamps manufacture at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. Although some of the later styles represent either metal or rubber devices, they are not herein distinguished. All Bureau styles show continuous lines across horizontal subjects.
